April Luncheon - Terrorist & Violent Intruder Preparedness / Response - Simplifying Your Response Based on Attacker Objective Commonalities
Speakers - Vaughn Baker & Mark Warren, co-owners of Strategos International
Description: Preparedness and response for violent events sometimes get separated and compartmentalized based on the types of attackers rather than the types of attacks. Columbine vs. Mumbai, Navy Yard Shooter vs. Paris Attackers, Aurora CO Movie Theater vs. Kenya Westgate Mall Attack . . . two different types of attackers, but the same type of attack.
FBI domestic and international terrorism definitions both include the following two elements: (1) “involve violent acts or acts dangerous to human life that violate federal or state law” (2) “appear to be intended to intimidate or coerce a civilian population”
Although these definitions include elements of terrorism, they also directly apply to the traditional perception and definition of "active shooters" in our workplaces.
This session will examine the following:
- Evolution of terrorists and violent intruder attacks
- Goal & Objective commonalities of the attacker
- Categories and responsibilities of professional & "true first responders" - (armed & unarmed)
- Organizational preparedness and response principles for violent intruders
