Topic:  ASIS International’s Standard for Workplace Violence Prevention & Intervention: What does it mean for your organization

Presentation Summary: In 2011 ASIS published their standard for Workplace Violence Prevention & Intervention. But what does the release of the standard mean for your organization? Betten will explain how guidelines and standards are developed and how they differ. The development of standards within the security profession significantly raises the bar for the security professional. Participants will be introduced to the standard and what keys points of the document should be reviewed and implemented. The development of the standard is the benchmark by which all organizations will be judged. 

Bio: Michael Betten, MS, CPP retired from the Overland Park Police Department after 25 years of service and serves as the director of security for the Stowers Institute for Medical Research. Betten is the 3A Regional Vice President for ASIS International and is currently serving as the Kansas City ASIS chapter’s certification representative helping other security professionals study and prepare for the Certified Protection Professional (CPP) examination. Betten has a Masters in Security Management through Bellevue University (NE). He assisted two American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) sub-committees in the development of test methods for security glazing materials. He still assist law enforcement agencies in the development of their crime prevention/community policing programs emphasizing security fundamentals and partnering with private security professionals.
